Oops!

So I had this dream...

I went to drop off my son at my parents house so my husband and I could go to a lecture. He went to the masjid to make salah and I prayed at home and got ready so he could pick me up and we'd be on our way.

I heard him honk outside and I slipped my coat on. Heading to the door, I told my mom that there should be enough diapers in the baby bag. I grabbed my niqaab and tied it on.

I said my salaams and closed the door behind me and bounced over to the car.

I could see my husbands eyes grow wider as he stared at me through the car window.

He ran out the car and towards me, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? IS THIS A JOKE?" He pushed me back towards the house.

"Aren't we going out?"

"Not like that! What's wrong with you?!"

I turned back towards the house and felt the wind blow against my neck.

Wait... wind against my neck? I haven't felt that for years!

Alas, I put my niqaab on without my hijab

HAHAHA

Okay, the sad part is... I did this before in read life LOL. It was my first week of being a niqaabi. I was so paranoid that I would go out and forget to put it on, that I skipped the step before that - putting on my hijab! Good thing I was halfway out the door when I felt a warm summer breeze through my hair and ran back inside!

Oh and then there are those windy fall days where I'm just walking down the street and the wind swoops my niqaab up over my head while I frantically try to pull it back down over my face haha.

Lol subhanAllaah I found that so funny! InshaaAllaah I hope I don't ever do that. (I'm too worried about how my niqab looks, i.e. if it's symmetrical and comfy :p so inshaaAllaah there will be no trouble)

JazakAllaah for sharing
Your anonymous fellow niqabi sis!

LOL, that was funny sis. Your husband must be thinking that you've gone out of your mind. But... it's only a dream right.

Oh, that's funny! Good thing there was a breeze.

I dream about somehow having lost my hijab, or about frantically trying to keep it on my head, but it's never actually happened.

hahah! Man this happened to me once, but with hijab.

When I first started wearing it, I remember walking out of the house and halfway down the block, after feeling breezes(!) I realized that I wasn't wearing my hijab on! I think I made a national sprinting record that day going back home... c:

Alhamdulillah, I've been on the lookout ever since.

Assalamu alaikom,
I was outside for maybe a half hour before I realized I hadn't put on a hijab. That was embarrassing. And I couldn't believe I was that dense! Another time, I bent over and my slinky hijab slid right off my head. Oops!

I never thought about niqaab flying around in the wind. How do you deal with that? It must be annoying as all get out. If I know I'm going to be outside on a windy day, I purposely wear my scarf strategically secured. Is there a trick to secure niqaab that I'm not thinking of?

oh no I did this too lol
eyes serene - you just have to hold it down, or sometimes your coat covers it if you're wearing one that is on a windy day.
I went to a masjid which had fans it was horrible. Every time you make sujud or ruku it blows your hijab everywhere! I had to pray with 1 arm bent behind my back to hold it down. Then sisters told me who go there regularly they have to pin the back down

I always have dreams about forgetting my niqaab or my hijab & niqaab entirely. And sometimes I start crying when I have dreams that nonmahram men see my face. So funny!

assalamu alaykum

I do dream too about going out without hijaab!! But not wearing niqab only lol! :)

Anon, ya, at jummah I used to get my friend to pin my scarf to my back when it was summer and the fans were on. So funny. I always think that niqaab would be so nice to wear but I would be so embarrassed if it was flying in the wind!

even if it is flying around thats no reason not to wear it. its not something that happens all the time or somethin you cant prevent. sometimes it just catches you off guard like a lot of thigs do you know

Lol! I guess we all have our hijab bloopers! Once when I was praying in the masjid, my scarf which was a little silky, completely slipped off my head during sujud! I was so embarrassed!

Salaam sis.

That was so funny, thanks for the laugh. I've had dreams where I have gone out without my hijab too. In one dream, I have gone all the way to school, out of the train station and then I've turned around put my hand on my head and say "Where is my hijab?". I've had dreams like that on more than on occasion. Love your blogs!

YEa wind and niqaab aren't a good combination, so are kids. My stepdaughter has tried plenty of times to pull mines off my face. She would say I wanna see your face and pull it or lift it up. Oh and one time I was wearing one of those velcro niqaabs and while walking in the middle of street, I guess I didn't secure it properly, but it just fell off entirely and the bad thing I was holding something in one hand and tried to fix it with my other hand...didn't work.

I one time walked into my house where my husband was sitting with his brother in law and pulled off my hijab like you do when your just coming in on a hot day or something. I realized right away and threw the scarf over my whole head and while running out of the room. They laughed it off but I was so embarrased.
