The tall hats are supposed to catch more cool air to cool them off. Awesome. I want one! Imagine.. people would probably think I were a walking scarecrow haha

The hats are great and you can buy them from street vendors for a few a dollar or so. They really work. Working in the fields may be more difficult in full hijab but its not imposible. As for washing, not a problem, I found they do not worry about washing for dirt so much as for smell. Everyone in the villages has dirt on them, and no matter how hard you try to stay away from it, you'll end up looking like a farmer in no time.

Wow! That's really interesting :)! I read a lot about the Yemen recently, I think the women do a lot of the farming because quite a lot of the men have to work abroad for months. Thanks for posting this was really cool!

Lots of props to them for farming in that Yemeni heat! I've visited Yemen before, beautiful people! I am not Muslim but I adore the loose garments, which really DO keep you cooler in the scorching heat than t-shirts and shorts! I wore similar hats there as well and they really do cool you down. I so much miss the family feeling being in Yemen, also the same feeling when I visited Turkey. Here we're too busy to stop and be friendly and enjoy life and it's small pleasures! I love the Middle Eastern cultures and Islam, very beautiful traditions. My trips abroad have really changed my mindset about these different people! Thanks for sharing these pictures and taking me back to those warm memories!
