Looks like a great documentary. I wish I had been in the States to see it. May be they will do re-runs, or PBS might put it on the website or sumthing.

Thanks for sharing sis!

omg mashallah! As a Latina Muslimah this makes me so excited. I am so glad I came across your blog or I would have missed this documentary! I think I will get my friends together to watch it inshallah. It makes me happy and proud to see Latinos and Muslim minorities stepping up. It's also good to just see Muslims in general doing something good and bein seen positively. Much respect to this brother and his community, cant wait to watch it!!

I think there were/are some problems with the actual show time. PBS was having second thoughts or something. Tune in on Tuesday at 10pm and see whether or not it airs. The documentary can also be purchased NewMuslimCool.com

Asalaamu Aaliakum All,
I saw this documentary at a showing in DC. It was so good. PBS stations in cities had the option of picking it up or not. It seems that we as viewers/Muslims/ potential donors need to STEP up and let our Local stations topic this up. That was the issue here in DC. It is what is it.
Insha~allah if your in DC for ISNA next weekend it will be shown there too.

I posted this on my blog as well. I enjoyed it immensely. It showed the beauty and struggle of being a Muslim in America. It also showed his progression over a couple years time. Really an amazing story.

This was great, it really showed that Muslims are "normal" as well. We have our family lives and family problems and we are hard working and working in our communities too. I'm glad br. Hamza and his community were gracious enough to have cameras around all the time to let us peer into their lives and all of America too. My non Muslim friends watched it and really liked it too!!!

I saw this Film and what Troubled me Is that there was nothing Cool. it was Islam Mixed or fused with the Dunya. With a hint of A So called Halal Stamp on it.
I'm happy He found Islam and didn't Stay in the Streets he gained an Islamic Family and a A lovely Wife. but We can't mix the Dunya and Islam this is a American Issue or American Culture thing.

Umm Ismail how did he mix it with dunya and put a halal stamp? Did anyone say he was an example for all Muslims? He let us glimpse into his life, just remember if you were in this film people would find flaws with you too. There are shaiks who say Music is permissible and this brother is getting a lot of heat over this issue. We don't know his stance on it. He is not doing zinah or something in the film, it's issues that are debatable. Everyone is on a road to pleasing Allah and maybe he will change some things and maybe not. But if you listen to him in the film you can see he really has a good heart and there could be some people in their homes like monks acting all holy but it's all a joke.

I agree with Umm Ismail. May Allah swt give us all the tawfeeq to practice Islam properly and keep us on the correct path Ameen.
